COMPOSITE GAZETTEER OF ANTARCTICA

one of the Debenham Islands, Fallières Coast, was charted by BGLE in 1936, and named Ann or Anne after Ann Debenham (Mrs Buxton) (b.1927), fourth daughter of Frank Debenham (Debenham Islands, q.v.) (BA chart 3213, 7.ii.1947; 18.vii.1947). Ann Island (BA chart 3213, 6.x.1950; APC, 1955, p.4). Islote Ana (Argentina. MM chart 116, 1952). Island in the Debenham Islands, lying SE of Barbara Island, off the W coast of Graham Land. Discovered by the BGLE, 1934-37, under Rymill, and named by him for a daughter of Frank Debenham, member of the BGLE Advisory Committee.

An ice dome overlying the borders of the Ross Dependency, the Australian Antarctic Territory and Terre Adélie near the South Pole. It extends east-west and rises to over 3 100 m. The dome was crossed by Amundsen's and Scott's parties on their journeys to the South Pole, 1911-12 and was mentioned as a major ridge rather than as an isolated dome. Mapped by radio echo sounding by the Scott Polar Research Institute.
