forming W entrance point of Cemetery Bay, Signy Island, were surveyed by FIDS from Signy in 1947 and so named because elephant seals (Mirounga leonina) haul out on these flats (APC, 1955, p.9; [incorrectly shown as the shallows in Cemetery Bay] DOS 210 Signy Island sheet, 1-DOS 1973; [correctly named] BA, 1974, p.156; DOS 210 Signy Island sheet, 2-DOS 1975).
