A cove about 2 1/ 2 miles wide, lying between Inexpressible Island and the Northern Foothills along the coast of Victoria Land. First charted by the BAE, 1907-09. Probably named by Shackleton for Captain F P Evans, master of the Koonya, which towed the expedition ship Nimrod south in 1907, and later captain of the Nimrod during the last year of the expedition. It was here that the South Magnetic Pole Party under David, embarked on the Nimrod, and here the Northern Party, led by Campbell, of the BAE, 1910-13, spent a winter under very bad conditions. |
