Este monte ha sido conocido por la Expedición Antártica Belga, al mando del teniente Adrien de Gerlache, exploró la costa SE de la isla Anvers en 1898. Este monte fue divisado más tarde por la Expedición Francesa de 1903-1905, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien le dio el nombre de su barco expedicionario "Français". highest peak (2825m) on Anvers Island, at S end of Trojan Range, was sighted by BeAE in 1898; roughly charted by FAE, 1903-05, and named Mont du Français or Sommet du Français after the expedition ship Français (Français Cove, q.v.) Majestic, snow-covered mountain, 2,760 m, which forms the summit of Anvers Island, standing SE of the center of the island and 6 mi N of Borgen Bay, in the Palmer Archipelago. First seen by the BelgAE, who explored the SE coast of the island in 1898. Later sighted by the FrAE, 1903-05, under Charcot, who named it for the expedition ship Francais.
