largest of a group of islands off Prime Head, Trinity Peninsula, was roughly charted by FAE, 1837-40, 27 February 1838, and named Roche Gourdin after Enseigne de Vaisseau Jean-Marie Gourdin, of the French Navy, an officer in the expedition ship Astrolabe (d'Urville, 1838, map following p.1170; 1841, p.xxxvi; Vincendon-Dumoulin, atlas, 1847, Pl.8).
