S of Adelaide and SW of Crosse Passage, Adelaide Island, including Biggs Island, Crouch Island, Dean Rocks, Preston Island and Worth Reef, were roughly charted by FAE, 1908-10, in January 1909, but their limits were undefined; named IÎlots Henkes, after Hr Henkes, Norwegian Director of the Sociedad Ballenera de Magallanes [Magellan Whaling Company], Punta Arenas, who assisted FAE (Charcot, 1910, p.25; 1912, Pl.1 and 2). Henkes Islets, shown extending from their actual position NW along the coast towards Cape Adriasola (BA chart 3175, 9.x.1914; DCS 601 sheet 67 68, 1954; [in 67 44'S 69 10'W] APC, 1955, p.11). Henkes Öyane (HA chart, 1927). Henkes Islands, still incorrectly shown (Wilkins, 1929, map facing p.374; APC, 1959a, p.7; BA chart 3571, 14.vii.1961). Grupo Blanco Encalada, after Almte M. Blanco Encalada (Hoseason Island, q.v.) (Chile. DNH chart LIII, 1947). Islotes Henkes ([referring to a limited group SW of Avian Island] Argentina. MM chart 132, 1947; [extending NW towards Cape Adriasola] Argentina. MM chart 109, 1949; [correctly shown] Argentina. MM chart 132, 1957; Pierrou, 1970, p.420; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.150). Islote Henke [sic] (Argentina. MM, 1959a, p.253). Ostrova Khenkes (Soviet Union. MMF chart, 1961). Following surveys by BAS from Adelaide in 1961 and by an RN Hydrographic Survey Unit from HMS Protector in 1963, the name Henkes Islands was redefined with the limits given above (APC, 1964, p.3; BA chart 3577, 14.viii.1964). Henkes Island [sic] (Moe and DeLaca, 1976, p.23).

Group of small islands and rocks 2 mi in extent, lying 1 mi SW of Avian Island, close off the S extremity of Adelaide Island. Discovered by the FrAE, 1908-10, under Charcot, and named by him for one of the Norwegian directors of the Magellan Whaling Co. at Punta Arenas. Charcot applied the name to the scattered rocks and islands between Cape Adriasola and Cape Alexandra. The name was restricted to the group described by the UK-APC following definitive mapping by the BAS in 1961 and the British Royal Navy Hydrographic Survey in 1963.

Fueron descubiertos y levantados por primera vez por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien les dio el nombre de uno de los directores en Punta Arenas, Chile, de la Compañía Ballenera Magallanes, que estaba establecida en su base de isla Decepción y que ayudó a la expedición. En algunas cartas chilenas de 1947 figuraron como grupo Blanco Encalada, nombre puesto por la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1947 y que fue adoptado por otros países, pero erróneamente aplicado a toda la isla Adelaida. Grupo de islotes cubiertos de nieve y rodeados de arrecifes que orillan la costa SW de isla Adelaida, y que se extienden desde cabo Adriasola 15 millas hacia el SE, terminando en el islote Bories.
