El nombre fue puesto en 1962 por el Instituto Hidrográfico de la Armada de Chile por el remolcador de alta mar "Cabrales", buque de larga y destacada trayectoria en la zona de Magallanes. Es un grupo de islas e islotes, que se extienden por 18 cables en sentido N-S y 11 cables en sentido E-W, que está situado a unas 6 millas al oriente de la isla Rabot y centrado a 10 millas de NW del cabo Ferin de la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins. |

NNE of Dodman Island, Graham Coast, were photographed from the air by FIDASE, 1956-57; in association with the names of sea-ice specialists grouped in this area, named after Jack Hennessy (1885-1954), Deputy Marine Superintendent, UK Meteorological Office, 1940-54, who collected and published reports on sea ice in the Southern Ocean, 1902-53 (APC, 1959a, p.7; BA chart 3573, 26.viii.1960). Islas Cabrales, so called by CAE after the Chilean tugboat Cabrales (Chile. DNH chart 1502, 1962; IHA, 1974, p.63). Hennessy Island [sic] (USOO chart 6946, 1964). |

Group of small islands 2 mi in extent, lying 4 mi SE of Jurva Point, the SE end of Renaud Island, in the Biscoe Islands. The main islands in the group were first accurately shown on an Argentine government chart of 1957. Named by the UK-APC in 1959 for Jack Hennessy (1885-1954), Deputy Marine Superintendent of the (British) Meteorological Office, 1940-54, who collected and published reports on sea ice observations in Antarctic waters, 1902-53. |
