central and highest peak (2860m) of Eternity Range (q.v.), was probably one of the three peaks seen from the air by Ellsworth on 21 November 1935 and named Mount Faith (q.v.), Mount Hope and Mount Charity (q.v.), "because we had to have faith, and we hoped for charity in the midst of cold hospitality" (Ellsworth, 1936b, map p.4, p.8; Joerg, 1937, map facing p.444; DOS 610 sheet W 69 64, 1963); probably the feature surveyed by BGLE in October 1936, and named Mount Wakefield after Viscount Wakefield of Hythe (Wakefield Highland, q.v.) (Rymill, 1938a, map facing p.496; BA chart 3175, 1.iii.1940; APC, 1955, p.22; DCS 601 sheet 69 64, 1955). Monte Esperanza [translation of English name] (Otero Espasandin, 1943, p.15). Monte Wakefield (Argentina. IGM map, 1946; Pierrou, 1970, p.721; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.297). Mont Wakefield (IHB chart B'I, 1952). Following resurvey by FIDS from "Stonington Island" in November 1960, the name Mount Hope was re-applied to the feature (APC, 1962, p.16).

A massive mountain rising to 2,860 m, forming the central and highest peak of Eternity Range, northern Palmer Land. First seen from the air and named Mount Hope by Lincoln Ellsworth during his flights of Nov. 21 and 23, 1935. The mountain was surveyed and given the name Mount Wakefield by J.R. Rymill of BGLE in Nov. 1936. The feature was subsequently photographed from the air by the USAS in Sept. 1940, and by RARE in Dec. 1947. A careful study of the reports, maps, and photographs of these expeditions, as well as additional survey of the area by FIDS in 1960, has led to the conclusion that Ellsworth's Mount Hope and Rymill's Mount Wakefield are synonymous. For the sake of historical continuity the name Mount Hope has been retained for this mountain (the name Wakefield has been transferred to Wakefield Highland located close northwestward). This mountain is one of three major mountains in Ellsworth's Eternity Range to which he gave the names Faith, Hope, and Charity.

Este monte fue avistado desde el aire por Lincoln Ellsworth en el año 1935. Fue cartografiado en 1936 por una partida al mando de John Rymill y recibió el nombre por el Vizconde Wakefield de Hythe, un contribuyente a la Expedición.
