in Erebus and Terror Gulf, off NE coast of James Ross Island, was roughly surveyed by SwAE in February 1902; resurveyed by FIDS from "Hope Bay" in November 1945 and named Humps Islet in reference to the twin summits of the island (BA chart 3205, 23.ix.1949; APC, 1955, p.12). Isla Humps (Chile. DNH chart L, 1951). Islote Humps (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.320; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.157). Islote Giboso [translation of English name] (Argentina. MM chart 124, 1957; Pierrou, 1970, p.393). Humps Island (APC, 1959a, p.8; BA, 1961, p.140; BAS 250 sheet SP 21-22/13, 1-DOS 1974).

Island 0.5 mi long with two summits near the W end, situated 4 mi SSE of the tip of The Naze, a peninsula of N James Ross Island, which lies S of the NE end of Antarctic Peninsula. Discovered by the SwedAE under Nordenskjold, 1901-04. This descriptive name was recommended by the UK-APC in 1948 following a survey of the area by the FIDS in 1945.

Descubierto por la Expedición Sueca de 1901-1904, al mando de Otto Nordenskjöld. Este nombre descriptivo fue recomendado en 1948 por el Comité Británico para colocar Nombres Antárticos, cuando continuó el levantamiento de esta zona, comenzado por el FIDS en 1945. Islote que mide 1 milla de largo y tiene dos promontorios en su extremo W, queda ubicado a 4,6 millas al SSE de punta Naze, la península N de la isla Ross.
