An island about 2 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide, and 400m high, forming the west shore of Evans Cove and lying in the outer edge of the Nansen Sheet along the coast of Victoria Land. First explored by the Northern Party, led by Campbell, of the BAE, 1910-13, which gave it the name of Southern Foothills in contradistinction to the Northern Foothills to the north-east. In February 1912, when the party moved their camp to this island, they changed the name to Inexpressible Island. Here they spent a very unpleasant winter on half rations in a cave in a snowdrift.
