Photographed by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. in 1956-57, and mapped from these photos in 1959. Named by the UK-APC for Avicenna (Abu Ali al Hussein abu Abdullah ibn Sina), 980-1037, greatest of the Arabian school of physicians.
