ENE of Cape Alexandra, Adelaide Island, was charted by FAE, 1908-10, on 15 January, 1909 and named IÎle Jenny after Jenny Bongrain, wife of M. Bongrain (Bongrain Ice Piedmont, q.v.) (Charcot, 1910, map facing p.310). Isla Jenny (Gourdon, [1910], p.129; Chile. IHA, 1974, p.164). Jenny Island (BA chart 3175, 9.x.1914; DCS 601 sheet 67 68, 1954; APC, 1955, p.12). Jenny Öya (HA chart, 1927). The island was surveyed by FIDS from "Stonington Island" in October 1948. Isla Juanita (Argentina. MM, 1953, p.296; Pierrou, 1970, p.453). Rocky island 2 mi long which rises to 500 m, lying 3 mi E of Cape Alexandra, the SE extremity of Adelaide Island, in northern Marguerite Bay. Discovered by the FrAE, 1908-10, under Charcot, and named by him for the wife of Sub-Lieutenant Maurice Bongrain, French Navy, second officer of the expedition. |

Fue descubierta por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot y denominada por él, por la esposa del subteniente Maurice Bongrain, de la Armada Francesa, segundo oficial de la expedición. Isla rocosa de unas 2 millas de diámetro y 592 metros de altura, situada a 5 millas al ENE de cabo Alexandra en el extremo SE de isla Adelaida al N de bahía Margarita. La isla es fácil de identificar por estar libre de hielos en verano, se presenta como una mancha negra de piedra, con picos agudos en su cima. |
