A peak approximately 2895 metres high, 12 miles south of Mt Watt bordering on the plateau. Named by the NZFMCAE, 1962-63, for Mortimer McCarthy, a member of the crew of the "Terra Nova" of the BAE, 1910-13. McCarthy, who lives in New Zealand was a guest of the US Navy during the 1962-63 Antarctic season when he visited the continent again with two others of Scott's veterans.

McCarthy, was a guest of the U.S. Navy during the 1962-63 season when he revisited McMurdo Sound with two other Scott veterans.
