A small group of rocky islands close to the Budd Coast. Delineated from air photos taken by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47) and named by the USACAN after the whaling factory ship Balaena from which sketches of the Knox and Budd coasts were obtained as the result of air reconnaissance and shipboard observations in 1947. First visited by an ANARE party led by Phillip Law in January, 1956. |
