Captain Johann Meyer of the ship La Rochelle was one of several captains who in the years immediately following Heard's discovery (Captain John J Heard of the American barque Oriental sighted the island on 25 November 1853), sighted the islands and believed himself to be the first discoverer. Meyer sighted the islands on 10 January, 1857. The feature lies about 2 kilometres to the north west of McDonald Island and was named for Captain Meyer. |
