All scientific data collected by the Australian Antarctic program (AAp) are eventually described in the Catalogue of Australian Antarctic and Subantarctic Metadata (CAASM). CAASM can be used to search through AAp data descriptions, and it also provides links to access publicly available datasets, which can either be immediately downloaded or obtained from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC).
Dataset is primarily data collected by Fisheries Observers on Australian commercial fishing vessels targeting Patagonian Toothfish and Mackerel Icefish in the HIMI (Heard Island and McDonald Islands) and Macquarie Island fisheries. Further Data were collected on Aurora Australis research voyages in the Southern Ocean and during new and exploratory fisheries carried out in CCAMLR area 58.4.2. Data include shot position information, biological data on target and prominent bycatch species, length at age estimates for toothfish, catch size, catch composition, bird and marine mammal observations.
The data are held in a secure SQL database.
