MI2010_11_Alien-plant-survey_JDS
All scientific data collected by the Australian Antarctic program (AAp) are eventually described in the Catalogue of Australian Antarctic and Subantarctic Metadata (CAASM). CAASM can be used to search through AAp data descriptions, and it also provides links to access publicly available datasets, which can either be immediately downloaded or obtained from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC).

Description
The data are location and abundance data of alien plants found during a systematic survey of Macquarie Island. It relates to three species Poa annua, Cerastium fontanum and Stellaria media. It is essentially a repeat of the Copson 1977 survey.
This work has been completed as part of ASAC (AAS) project 2904, "Aliens in Antarctica" (ASAC_2904).
Purpose
To understand the current distribution of alien plants on Macquarie Island at the landscape scale. This current dataset will enable us to determine the spread of alien species over 30 years and compare and contrast the 3 species responses. The role of rabbits in driving this process can then be determined. This dataset enable us to assess the conservation status of Macquarie Island under environmental change. The determination of how novel ecosystems form and evolve can be made.
Quality
The values provided in temporal and spatial coverage are approximate only.
One line in the 1207TRACK2b_1)Line shapefile looks suspect. The attribute table suggests that it might be due to a loss of reasonable satellite coverage.
