All scientific data collected by the Australian Antarctic program (AAp) are eventually described in the Catalogue of Australian Antarctic and Subantarctic Metadata (CAASM). CAASM can be used to search through AAp data descriptions, and it also provides links to access publicly available datasets, which can either be immediately downloaded or obtained from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC).
The Australian Antarctic Division acquired aerial photographs of sea ice from helicopters using a digital Nikon D1X digital camera during Australian Antarctic Division voyage 1 2003/04 - Antarctic Remote Ice Sensing Experiment (ARISE), 10 Sep 2003 to 31 Oct 2003.
The Related URLs in this metadata record include the urls of web pages with information about the voyage, urls for requesting for the photographs and urls for downloading information about the photographs.
The ARISE aerial photographs of sea ice are part of the Australian Antarctic Data Centre's collection of aerial photographs which is described by the metadata record 'The collection of aerial photographs held by the Australian Antarctic Data Centre' with Entry ID: aerial_photo_gis.
The collection can be searched in the Australian Antarctic Data Centre's Aerial Photograph Catalogue - see Related URLs.
Select ARISE from the Aerial Photography Series picklist.

Digital flight lines and photo centres representing the runs along which the photographs were taken and the centres of the photographs are the basis of the catalogue.
The flight lines and photo centres for ARISE are available for download as shapefiles - see metadata record ID: aerial_photo_sea_ice_shapefiles.
The locations of the photographs were collected with a Garmin GPS12, sent to the camera using the NMEA protocol, and embedded in image EXIF tags. The image metadata were the only record of photo centres logged at flight time.
Flying heights are above the WGS84 ellipsoid in metres.
See the EXIF header of an image for the aperture and shutter speed details for that image.
Locations for ARISE flight 1 photographs are not available due to a GPS problem.
The sets of photographs are not available for download due to combined file size but can be requested via Related URLs.
Information about the photographs and flight lines and photo centres representing the ARISE photography are available for download via Related URLs.
