Request a new DOI

What happens in a DOI request

Once you formally submit your request for a DOI using this form:

  1. The AADC metadata officer will acquire a DOI from ARDC (Australian Research Data Commons). ARDC is part of the global DataCite DOI registration system (http://datacite.org/)
  2. Acquiring the DOI will involve the creation of
    • A Web-based 'landing page' which will display some basic metadata information.
    • A link to the dataset, as well as
    • a link to the complete CAASM record
  3. The DOI will also be added into the CAASM metadata record
  4. You will be notified once the Web 'landing page' has been created

DOI Usage

To use your DOI simply add the DOI (e.g., doi:10.1234/1234.726525) as a suffix to a formal citation for your dataset and reference this citation inline within the body of your publication.

Smith, J. (2012) Amazing dataset, thoroughly worthy of publication and re-use. Australian Antarctic Data Centre - doi:10.1234/1234.726525

If you notify the AADC (metadata@aad.gov.au) that you have used your DOI in a publication, we can track re-use of your data through various data citation indexes.
