Description

This dataset contains the underway data from Voyage 7 1994-95 of the Aurora Australis. This was a resupply voyage, and NoQalms data types were logged at 20-second intervals. The observations were taken between April and May 1995 on route from Hobart to Macquarie Island to Casey and back to Hobart. From the Voyage Leader's Report:

The scientific aims of the voyage were:

1) Provide shipboard support for the conduct of the scientific and operational projects.
2) Deploy Met Bureau buoys.
3) Conduct iceberg observations.
4) Attempt to catch and maintain at least 300 krill.
5) Deploy Glaciology buoys.
6) Attempt to recover a sea ice sonar mooring located at 65 degrees 7.35 minutes S, 107 degrees, 46.13 minutes E.
7) Undertake a bathymetric survey to and from Macquarie Island.

Where data for a particular sensor do not exist for a particular time, the last known value is used unless the sensor has been disabled or has encountered an error. For example, some sensors only record data every minute, but the resolution for the underway dataset is 10 seconds, so the same value will be used 6 times a minute. No averages are taken for sensors that capture data at a rate other than every 10 seconds. Instead, each record will be a snapshot of each sensor at that time.

Data are available on-line via the AADC web page. A "supplementary" dataset is also available for download from the provided URL. It contains raw data collected directly from the ship, which has not been quality checked.
