All scientific data collected by the Australian Antarctic program (AAp) are eventually described in the Catalogue of Australian Antarctic and Subantarctic Metadata (CAASM). CAASM can be used to search through AAp data descriptions, and it also provides links to access publicly available datasets, which can either be immediately downloaded or obtained from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC).

Description

Age-depth and geochemical data for a 2000 year lake sediment record from an unnamed lake on Macquarie Island. The lake is the small lake to the west of Major Lake, on the edge of the Macquarie Island plateau. The chronology is based on lead-210 (last ca. 100 years) and radiocarbon (extending to ca. 2000 years). Geochemistry is based on micro x-ray fluorescence, and carbon, nitrogen and sulphur contents. Grain size and water content were also measured.
Data correspond to the publication: Saunders et al. in prep. Southern Hemisphere westerly wind variability in the sub-Antarctic and relationships to mid-latitude precipitation for the last 2000 years.

An 54.0 cm sediment core was collected in 2010 from the centre of a small, unnamed lake west of Major Lake using a UWITEC gravity corer. The core was scanned using a micro x-ray fluorescent (µ-XRF) core scanner at 0.25 cm resolution.
