AAS_4620_BungerHills_RPA_imagery_2025

All scientific data collected by the Australian Antarctic program (AAp) are eventually described in the Catalogue of Australian Antarctic and Subantarctic Metadata (CAASM). CAASM can be used to search through AAp data descriptions, and it also provides links to access publicly available datasets, which can either be immediately downloaded or obtained from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC).

    Description

    This dataset contains unedited optical drone images and video of sites in the Bunger Hills collected over the 24-25 summer season. The focus of the project was sites with physical human impacts (e.g. camp sites, roads). Images were captured by Geoscience Australia as part of AAS Project 4620 'Towards a lighter touch: human impact assessments to support environmental stewardship'.

    Flight logs are included for all flights except Camp Kiewa and Oasis 2 road.

    - Camp Kiewa - captured 11-01-2025, using DJI Mini 3 Pro, located approx. -66.22998°,100.74179°.
    - Edgeworth David Base - captured 27-12-2024, using DJI Phantom 4 RTK, located approx. -66.24981°,100.60309°.
    - Oasis 2 area - captured 28-12-2024, using DJI Phantom 4 RTK, located approx. -66.27435°,100.74431°.
    - Oasis 2 road - captured 29-12-2024, using DJI Mini 3 Pro, located approx. -66.27196°,100.74443°.

    Purpose

    To support assessment and monitoring of sites subject to physical disturbance.

    Quality

    The RTK functionality of the Phantom 4 RTK was not operating when these images were captured. Locations in the image files are from the RPA GPS systems, accurate to +/- 3 m horizontally, +/- 10 m vertically.
