Description The American sealer John Davis makes what may be the first landing on the mainland of Antarctica - at Hughes Bay in Graham Land. Davis, from Connecticut, has been searching for seals in the South Shetlands. Not finding many he has ventured south in his Cecilia where he now lands in 'a large Bay, the Land high and covered entiresly with snow'.
