Additional Information | Skuas are the major predator of the snow petrel, but severe weather conditions, especially heavy snow that blocks nest entrances, may cause adults to abandon their eggs or leave chicks to starve. Egg mortality is about 50% and chick mortality is 10-15%. One egg is laid in late November and is incubated for 41-49 days. Snow petrel chicks fledge in late February to mid-May. |
