label Definition
Closed cushionfield - Closed cushionfield Vegetation dominated by cushion-plants with over 75% cover, sometimes coalescing over large areas.
Coastal biotic veg. - Pool complex/meadow Smallscale mosaic of pools on coastal flats used by moulting elephant seals, fringed by tussock and cushion-plants with patches of meadow. Pools cover 50% or less of area.
Coastal biotic veg. - Tussock with cushionfield Heterogeneous vegetation on coastal flats with a mixture of tussock and cushion-plants, subject to moderate pressure from wildlife.
Coastal biotic vegetation - Tussock (maritime grassland) Maritime grassland community dominated by tall tussock grass. Occurs most extensively on coastal flats subject to moderate/heavy pressure from wildlife, and on slopes around penguin colonies.
Fellfield - Fellfield Vegetation has less than 50% cover. Plants scattered over bare ground/gravel, consisting of scattered bryophytes, lichens, small herbs and grasses.
Mossy fellfield - Mossy fellfield Bryophytes, usually mosses, are the most abundant species and cover over 50% of ground. Cushion-plants may be present but have less than 50% cover.
Open cushionfield - Open cushionfield Cushion-plants have 50-75% cover with bare ground between the cushions. Sometimes other scattered species occur.
Open cushionfield - Open cushionfield/mossy fellfield Cushion-plants have 50-75% cover and intervening ground is dominated by bryophytes.
Wet mixed herbfield - Closed cushionfield/herbfield Vegetation dominated by cushion-plants and mega-herbs and/or burnets. On localised sites where wildlife influence is minimal such as small hillocks and steep lee slopes.
Wet mixed herbfield - Closed cushionfield/herbfield/tussock Mixture of cushion-plants, mega-herbs and tussock, usually on lee slopes and colonised by burrowing petrels.
Wet mixed herbfield - Herbfield Vegetation on sheltered slopes and banks dominated either by mega-herbs or burnets. Usually occurs in small patches.
Wet mixed herbfield - Mire/flush/meadow Vegetation of moist areas where water table is at or close to surface. Includes mires (vegetated areas with flow-through of water), flushes around springs, seepage areas on moraines and bluffs, and 'meadow' areas of short grasses.
Wet mixed herbfield - Mire/flush/open cushionfield A mosaic or mixture of small seepage/flush areas and open cushionfield or fellfield vegetation.
  Types
1207 Veg_Type_Name The name of the vegetation type. Types to be defined within the RiSCC program sponsored by SCAR. See http://www.nioo.nl/projects/riscc/, in particular the biodiversity database. Mandatory character(50)
