Su nombre original, punta High, probablemente fue puesto en 1935 por la Investigación Discovery, dirigida por el Dr. N.A. Mackintosh, en la nave "Discovery II". Su nombre actual es una traducción al castellano con el objeto de aprovechar su característica descriptiva. Punta notable de unos 120 metros de elevación, que limita por el N a la bahía Luna, en la costa oriental de la isla Livingston, islas Shetland del Sur.
