Esta formación fue descubierta por John Biscoe, el 21 de febrero de 1832. El creía que ésta era una parte continental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins. Biscoe dio el nombre al monte, por el Rey William IV, entonces rey de Inglaterra. Montaña prominente cubierta de nieve de 1.515 mts. de altura a 5 millas al NNE de cabo Lancaster, en el extremo S de isla Anvers del archipiélago de Palmer.
