SE point of King George Island, was charted by Bransfield, 22 January 1820, and named after Robert Saunders Dundas, 2nd Viscount Melville (Cape Dundas, q.v.) (Bransfield, chart, [1820b]; Bone, 1821, p.746; Fildes, 1821b, chart ; BA chart [no number], 1822; 3205, 25.iii.1937; APC, 1955, p.15; BA chart 3205, 23.xi.1962). South Foreland (Powell, chart, 1822a; Eyriès and Malte-Brun, 1823, map facing p.237). The name Cape Melville was also applied to North Foreland (q.v.) on some early charts.
