Discovered and named by the British National Antarctic Expedition (Discovery Expedition, BrNAE), 1901-04, for Seaman William L Heald, a member of the expedition who saved the life of Ferrar when the latter was suffering from scurvy in September 1902. It was climbed by Taylor of the British Antarctic Expedition (Terra Nova expedition, BrAE), 1910-13, on 26 February 1911.
