Este nombre corresponde al apellido del teniente 2º Miguel Malle Gómez, oficial del AGS. "Yelcho" de la Armada de Chile, quien participó en los trabajos hidrográficos que se efectuaron en esta zona geográfica en 1974. Bahía que se abre sobre la costa oriental de la isla Adelaida, a aproximadamente 37 millas al S del cabo Mascart frente a la costa SW de la isla Day, frente a la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
