Descubierta por la Expedición Antártica Francesa, 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien la divisó desde el estrecho Pendleton, cartografiándolo como una isla. Charcot le dio este nombre por A. Ferin, vice-cónsul de Francia en punta Delgada, Azores. La expedición británica de 1934-1937, al mando de John Rymill, cartografió esta costa y corrigió el trabajo hecho por Charcot. Cabo que se forma en el lado N de la entrada a bahía Holtedahl, en la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
