Descubierta en 1940 por personal del USAS, quienes les dieron el nombre por Clarence E Steele, conductor de tractores de la Base Este. Está situada a 17 millas al SE de cabo Sharbonneau de la costa E de la península Tierra de O'Higgins. Mide 12 millas de largo de E a W por 10 de ancho, y su altura es de 488 metros. Está completamente cubierta de hielo, agrietada en sus laderas abruptas, pero sin mostrar manchas de piedra visible.
