Denominada por el Dr. Otto Nordenskjöld, jefe de la Expedición Sueca de 1901-1904, en conmemoración de Edward Bransfield, Tierra de Trinidad de 1820. Isla de 15 millas de largo por 5 millas de ancho, está separada de la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins por el canal Orleans. La isla es alargada de N a S. Su altura es de 400 metros aproximadamente. Las costas están constituidas en su mayor parte por acantilados de hielo, inaccesibles desde el mar.
