A snow- and ice-free area (Norwegian name Schirmacheroasen), 25 km N of the nunataks Lingetoppane and 70 km N of Wohlthatmassiv, with a large number of fresh-water lakes near the grounding line of the ice shelf Nivlisen, Prinsesse Astrid Kyst, Neuschwabenland, Dronning Maud Land; initially named 'Schirmacherseenplatte' (translated 'Schirmacher's lake district'). Discovered during German Antarctic Expedition 1938/39 ('Neuschwabenland-Expedition') under Alfred Ritscher.
