five main islands (including Green Island, q.v.) and a number of rocks off Collins Bay, Graham Coast, were roughly charted by FAE, 1903-05, as one island and named Île Berthelot, after Marcelin Pierre Eugène Berthelot (1827-1907), French chemist and politician (Charcot, 1906b, p.474; 1906a, map facing p.316); following survey by FAE, 1908-10, on 4 January 1909, renamed Îles Berthelot (Charcot, 1910, p.70). Isla Berthelot (Gourdon, [1910], p.129). Berthelot Island, presumably referring to the largest island (Charcot, [1911b], p.159; BA, 1916, p.407). Berthelot Islands (Charcot, [1911b], p.69; Rymill, 1938a, map facing p.400; APC, 1959a, p.4; DOS 610 sheet W 65 64, 1959). Islas Berthelot (Rymill and others, 1943, map facing p.96). Group of rocky islands, the largest 1 mi long, lying 1.5 mi SW of Deliverance Point, off the W coast of Graham Land. Discovered by the FrAE, 1903-05, under Charcot, and named by him for Marcelin Berthelot, prominent French chemist.

Fueron descubiertas por la Expedición Antártica Francesa de 1903-1905, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien les dio el nombre por el apellido de Marcelín Berthelot, prominente químico francés. En algunas cartas chilenas, hasta 1957, aparecieron como islas Berthelot y en algunas publicaciones ha figurado como isla Berthelot la mayor de ellas. La verdadera naturaleza de este accidente la determinó John Rymill, durante la BGLE de 1934-1937. Forman un grupo compuesto por una isla central, de 9 cables de extensión y 165 metros de elevación, situada a 4 millas al SSW del cabo Tuxen, rodeada de islotes y rocas, frente a la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.

A lake in the Vestfold Hills about 4.5 km WNW from Platcha. The lake is basically oval in shape, and is some 500 m long by 200 m across. It is surrounded by a well developed marine terrace. The lake's water is hypersaline.
