on E side of Penola Strait, Graham Coast, E of Argentine Islands, were roughly surveyed by FAE, 1903-05, in 1904 and named IÁles Jallour [sic] after Tte de Fragata (later Capt.) Jorge Yalour (also spelt Jalour), of the Argentine Navy, Second-in-Command of the sloop-of-war Uruguay (Uruguay Cove, q.v.) which, in 1904-05, was used to search for evidence of the safety and progress of FAE; Delegate of the Instituto Geogra fico Argentino on the Uruguay relief expedition for SwAE in 1903; in command for relief of Laurie Island, 1907-08 (Charcot, 1906b, p.474; 1912, Pl.3). IÁle Jallour [sic], referring to the largest island (Gourdon, 1908, end map). Jallour [sic] Islets (Charcot, [1911b], p.61; BA, 1916, p.406; 1948, p.204). Group of islands and rocks 1.5 mi in extent in the S part of the Wilhelm Archipelago. The group lies 1 mi NW of Cape Tuxen, Graham Land. Discovered and named by the FrAE, 1903-05, under J.B. Charcot. Named for Lt. Jorge Yalour, Argentine Navy, an officer of the Argentine corvette Uruguay which came to the rescue of the shipwrecked SwedAE in Nov. 1903. |

Descubierto por la Expedición Francesa, que se desarrolló entre los años 1903-1905, bajo la dirección del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, quien la denominó con este nombre por el teniente Jorge Yalour, de la Armada Argentina, oficial de la corbeta "Uruguay", quien vino a rescatar a los náufragos de la Expedición Sueca en noviembre del año 1903. Grupo de islotes y rocas de 1,5 milla de extensión en el centro del estrecho Penola a 1 milla al NW del Tuxen en la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins. En verano quedan libres de nieve, presenta una coloración rojiza. |
