SW point of Smith Island, was roughly charted by Weddell in 1820, when a landing was made in the vicinity of the cape; further charted by Foster in 1829 and named after James Weddell (Weddell Sea, q.v.) (Foster, [1829]; Foster and Kendall, chart, 1829a; BA chart 1238, 7.ix.1839; 3205, 2.ix.1938; APC, 1955, p.12; BA chart 3205, 23.xi.1962). Cap James (Gerlache, 1902b, p.140). El nombre apareció en una carta que se basaba en un levantamiento realizado entre los años 1828-1831 por la Expedición Inglesa, al mando del capitán Henry Foster, ahora su empleo está establecido internacionalmente. Forma la extremidad S de isla Smith, en las islas Shetland del Sur. Es de color oscuro, bien notable, de unos 100 metros de altura, a su pie hay una roca de unos 50 metros de altura semejante a un escalón. |
