Changeover Mawson, close Heard
The ship called at Heard Island to load 15 dogs and their kennels for Mawson. An astrofix was made at the Larsemann Hills for mapping purposes, and a coastal survey done from there to Mawson. This voyage relieved Mawson on 9 Feb, where the ship was blown aground temporarily on 19 Feb. The program of summer exploration of Princess Elizabeth Land continued with scientific parties working on Magnetic Island, in the Vestfold Hills, and in Prydz Bay. The first ascent was made of Mt Henderson, near Mawson. Oceanographic studies were made before and after the relief operation. The Heard Island station was evacuated on 9 Mar after seven years of occupation.
