Changeover Mawson, explore
This voyage carried the Mawson relief party and the first RAAF Antarctic Flight, led by Douglas W Leckie, to spend a winter on the continent. Beaver and Auster aircraft were landed. Approximately 1600 km of coastline were photographed. Landings were made at Lewis Island, the Balaena Islands, and on two islands in Vincennes Bay. Brief visits were paid to Mirny station, Heard Island and Iles Kerguelen. An aircraft hangar and five new huts were erected at Mawson during the 17 day changeover. The vessel was beset from 1 to 11 Feb.
