between d'Urville Island and Dundee Island, separated from Trinity Peninsula by Antarctic Sound, was roughly charted by FAE, 1838-42, on 27 February 1838 and, together with d'Urville Island (with which it was thought to be joined), named Terre Joinville after François Ferdinand Philippe Louis Marie, Prince de Joinville (1818-1900), third son of the Duc d'Orléans (d'Urville, 1838, map following p.1170). Joinville Land (BA chart 1238, 7.ix.1839). Terre de Joinville (d'Urville, 1842, p.148).
