Narrative

rising to c.1500 in Herbert Mountains (q.v.), Shackleton Range, in association with the names of glacial geologists grouped in this area, was named after Ignaz Venetz-Sitten (known as Venetz) (1788-1859), Swiss engineer and glacial geologist who, in 1821, first expressed in detail the idea that Alpine glaciers were formerly much more extensive (APC, 1974, p.6; BAS 250P sheet SU 26-30/1, 1-DOS 1978).
