Discovered on helicopter flights from the USS Burton Island and Glacier by personnel of USN Bellingshausen Sea Expedition in February 1960. Named by US-ACAN for Reinhard W. Menzel, geomagnetist-seismologist with the Eights Station winter party, 1965.
