This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The point on the NW coast of Smith Island in the South Shetland Islands forming the S side of the entrance to Cabut Cove and the NE side of the entrance to Bourchier Cove. Situated 1.1 km SSE of Markeli Point and 2.35 km NNE of Villagra Point. Bulgarian mapping in 2009. Named after the settlements of Irechek in Northeastern and Irechekovo in Southeastern Bulgaria, in connection with the Czech historian and Bulgarian educator Konstantin Jirecek (1854-1918). Approved on June 3, 2010.
