Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) in 1994 after Nadene Kennedy, Polar Coordination Specialist, Office of Polar Programs, NSF. Associated with NSF Antarctic Program since 1978, including ten working visits to the continent. At the time of naming, NSF liaison with Antarctic tourist industry, responsible for implementing Antarctic Treaty reporting requirements and coordination of Antarctic visitor program.
