The ice rumples are a significant feature of the Amery Ice Shelf and are reflective of its interaction with the underlying ocean and the inland continental ice of the Lambert Glacier basin.
This feature is named after Professor William (Bill) Budd (1938-2022), an internationally recognised glaciologist who was awarded the Seligman Crystal by the International Glaciological Society in 1996, and had a long standing history of investigations into the Amery Ice Shelf and environs. Professor Budd was Director of the Antarctic CRC and leader of the Glaciological Modelling program.
