This name originates from Australia. It is part of the Australian Antarctic Gazetteer.
A rocky island about 160 metres in length in Cave Bay on the western side of Heard Island. Named after the American merchant ship Oriental, from which Captain Heard sighted Heard Island on 25 November 1853.
