Esta roca fue cartografiada en 1935 por personal de la DI, en el "Discovery II", quienes le dieron el nombre Passage Rock, debido a que sirve como guía para los buques que pasan a través del paso Lautaro. Desde 1949, Chile usa el nombre islote Channel. Pequeño islote de piedra negra y de regular altura, situado a 5,5 cables al W de cabo Morris, extremo occidental de la isla Robert, abriéndose entre ambos el paso Lautaro, en islas Shetland del Sur.
