Descubierto por la Expedición Francesa de 1908-1910, al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot quien lo denominó en esta forma por Sir Ernest Shackleton, Jefe de la Expedición Británica de los años 1914-1916, al mando del "Endurance", que fue atrapado por los hielos el 17 de enero de 1915. Es un pico con acantilados que caen perpendicularmente por su lado W, está situado a 2 mi llas al E del pico Chaigneau en la costa W de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
