El nombre es de carácter descriptivo, por la posición del accidente. Se abre sobre la costa SW de isla Doumer, en una milla al oriente de cabo Kemp y la cierra por el sur una angosta península que termina al occidente de punta Py. La bahía mide 4,5 cables de ancho por 11 de saco. Las costas norte y oriental están formadas por acantilados de hielo, la costa sur es una playa de piedra
