This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.
The 1.1 km wide cove indenting for 750 m the N coast of Byers Peninsula between Villard Point and Varadero Point, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands. British mapping in 1822 and 1968, Chilean in 1971, Argentine in 1980, Spanish in 1992, and Bulgarian in 2005 and 2009. Named after the Bulgarian revolutionary and national hero Tonka Obretenova – 'Baba (Grandma) Tonka' (1812-1893).
